Emergency Calling on the Mitel IP Phone

By : Neil Tennant / 14 April, 2016 /

It's important to know how to dial out when there's an emergency in the workplace.

When your IP phone system is configured, your system administrator may set up emergency call routing. It's important to clarify whether this has been done, because it will affect the procedure in the event of an emergency.

This Mitel phone guide is for MiVoice Business (also known as Mitel 3300 ICP) users only.

What is Emergency Call Routing?

Emergency call routing passes an emergency call from your IP phone system to the analogue phone system. This allows you to dial 999 directly from an IP phone.

On some systems, emergency call routing may not be set up. Contact your administrator if you aren't sure.

  • To make an emergency call with Emergency Call Routing set up, you can lift the handset and dial 999 in the usual way
  • If Emergency Call Routing is NOT set up, you must pick up the handset and press the Analog Line programmed key.

If possible, we recommend that Emergency Call Routing is set up when the phone system is implemented, so that dialling 999 is as fast and intuitive as possible. If you need support with configuring this in your business, don't hesitate to contact us for help.
